"Michelle Geary is a badass magical wildwoman, single mother, who lives in the wilds of the Canadian North and follows the beat of her own drum, creating beauty from her heart song in metal and stones", she said when I asked what the hell it is I should be putting down here.
She summed it up perfectly. Oh, and I'm really tall.
I am a tree hugging, dirt worshipping, wild woman. I am a spiritual seeker, a dreamer of dreams, and a maker of magic. I am a mother, a lover, a sister, a daughter, a friend. I was born a wild soul on a new moon in August, free to follow my heart at the breakneck pace I usually hold. It’s how I live: fearlessly wild with a heart full of love and a head full of dreams.
‘Creative fire fueled by inspiration’ is how I often think about the energy that comes together in visions to become sacred adornment within these studio walls. It’s an alchemical practice, to transform vision into a tangible object. And here in the sacred space of my studio I work with fire, metal and stones to create pieces of jewellery intended as empowering, supportive talismans.
Deep inspiration comes to me in working closely with the stones and maintaining a close connection to nature. The vast expanses of a wild forest are the most magical places to me; when the noise surrounding you is the Earth breathing and the only sign of humans is yourself.
What fascinates me the most about crystals is that they come from the Earth. I know it sounds simple but it’s really incredible when you think about what is pulled out of the dirt… And when I’m interested about something I get serious about learning more. My journey with crystals and stones began in a museum gift shop on summer vacation 20 years ago now. Since then I’ve read book after book on crystals; about their healing properties, geology of the stones, folklore and ancient customs. In 2013 I completed certification with the HMCA as an accredited crystal healer.
My metalsmithing journey began in 2008, two years after making the decision to persue jewellery design as my career. I work mainly in sterling silver and incorporate brass, copper and gold into my creations. Unique crystals and gems are showcased in my pieces, each stone is picked with intention to help tell the story of the finished piece. I try to make as much as I can by hand which means ear hooks, posts, clasps, ball pins and other findings are created from scratch in my studio. Incorporating as many hand created elements as possible is very important to me, I believe it breathes life into each piece. This also means that each Wild Soul piece is as unique as the beautiful soul who wears it.
Why do I do this? Because I want you to feel beautiful. Empowered. Brave. Inspired.
I want you to put on your piece of Wild Soul and go out into the world shining your light so brightly we need sunglasses. I want you to stand in your power and live your dreams. Because you can.
My intention is to create sacred adornment that is not only pleasing to the eye but also showcases a natural raw beauty that stirs something within. Jewellery has been viewed as a sacred adornment for thousands of years and the magic remains today. A prayer built of metal, stone & passion. A center for you to return to, a reminder that you are powerful and beautiful in all your wild ways.
